The Class of 2010 has strength at the top and at a few skill positions. Depth at Wide Receiver and Defensive Back makes this class special. With a full season to improve their stock there are a few players that can change the look of this list by December. Here are our rankings to start the season.

1.

Eric Reid | S

COMMITTED TO LSU

Dynamic talent, who looks to play this season injury free. Is fast, aggressive and smart. An honor student, who works a full time job, Reid has everything you want in a student athlete.

2.

Tharold Simon | S

COMMITTED TO LSU

Projects as a defensive back, possibly corner. Tall and athletic, which has people thinking he will play safety, but has skill set of a corner. Athletic, fluid hips.

3.

Ronnie Vinson | ATH

COMMITTED TO LSU

Athletic corner prospect, who will do it all for the Greenies. Has shown that he is unafraid of competition, Vinson is a competitor who will push his teammates.

4.

Nick Jacobs | TE

COMMITTED TO LSU

The best tight-end in Louisiana, Jacobs may also be the best defensive end. A punishing in-line blocker, Jacobs is a physical presence.

5.

Trovon Reed | WR

COMMITTED TO AUBURN

Reed is the kind of player that can fill a highlight film. He scored 21 touchdowns last season for the Tigers, and looks to be as productive this season. Making the adjustment to receiver on the next level is the only question.

6.

COMMITTED TO  LSU

Allen plays with a tremendous motor, always hustling to the ball. Had 9 sacks in 2008, and plays the runs very well.

7.

James Wright | WR

Undecided

A big, fast receiver Wright has played in the spread at Belle Chasse and has put up impressive numbers. Had over 1,000 yards as a junior, however a new quarterback could affect his production as a senior.

8.

Jarrett Fobbs | ATH

COMMITTED TO Texas A&M

A quick, slot type receiver Fobbs is dangerous on the offensive side. Also could project at corner in some schemes.

9.

Elliot Porter | DT

COMMITTED TO LSU

Highly decorated defensive tackle who had numerous offers on the defensive line, Porter committed to LSU to play offensive line. An athletic big man Porter canbe a dominating guard.

10.

Tyrann Mathieu | CB

COMMITTED TO LSU

Mathieu is one of the fastest risers this summer. A pure cover corner with excellent ball skills, Mathieu does not shy away from contact. Still growing, Mathieu will bulk up as he matures. New Coach David Johnson has been very instrumental in his development.

11.

Glenn Coleman | WR

Undecided

Coleman is an athletic receiver with tremendous upside. Very quick, with great moves and hands, Coach Marcus Scott will look to get the ball to Coleman as much as possible.

12.

Alfred Blue | RB

COMMITTED TO LSU

Blue is a huge runner, who can catch very well. Blue was thought to be a junior this season, but is now a senior. A physical downhill runner, Blue is athletic enough to play in a number of offenses.

13.

Churphy Steward | DT

Undecided

Steward is the most dominating defensive lineman in the state. Still needing to improve in the classroom, Steward is a work in progress.

14.

Curtis Carter | ATH

COMMITTED TO TCU

Another shifty, slot receiver prospect with great speed Carter is another of the great receiver prospects in Louisiana. Carter could be one of the hottest names inn recruiting as the season progresses.

15.

D.J. Welter | OLB

COMMITTED TO LSU

A natural inside linebacker, Welter plays with a physical presence and always seems to be in on the tackle. Is the foundation of Coach Louis Cook’s defense.

16.

Anthony Balancier | DB

Undecided

A great safety prospect who could grow into a physical outside linebacker that colleges are looking for to cover and defend against the spread offenses proliferating college football.

17.

Houston Bates | DE

COMMITTED TO LSU

A physical defender, bates plays defensive end for Kenny Sears’ team. Bates athleticism could project to any of a number of positions on the defensive side of the ball.

18.

Kalen Henderson | ATH

COMMITTED TO Tulsa

A tall, rangy quarterback prospect who projects as a spread offense trigger man. Is productive in the Wildcat’s spread offense running and passing.

19.

Jonathan McKnight | CB

Undecided

McKnight is projected to play defensive back on the college level, and could play corner or safety. Has played offense for Coach J.T. Curtis, and could bring versatility to whatever college program he plays for.

20.

Harold Legania | DT

COMMITTED TO MINNESOTA

A physical line presence, Legania could play on either side of the ball. Coach Jabbar Juluke will use Legania all over the field.

21.

Kevin Wright | QB

 Undecided

Wright has played quarterback in the Coach Warren Capone’s running attack, but with the Crusaders now installing an open offense Wright can attack from various positions on the field. Wright’s production will increase dramatically. Look for Wright to play receiver on the college level.

22.

Munchie Legaux | QB

COMMITTED TO COLORADO

Still a work in progress, Legaux has as much upside potential as anyone in the state of Louisiana. Coach Jabbar Juluke has taken his time to make sure that Legaux has developed in a productive manner.

23.

Seth Ancar | OLB

COMMITTED TO LOUISIANA TECH

Ancar is the most physical player in the state of Louisiana. An undersized inside linebacker on the high school level, Ancar is not ranked higher because he does not have ideal size. As a pure football player, Ancar is elite.

24.

Collin Ellis | S

COMMITTED TO NORTHWESTERN

Ellis has grown from a safety to a linebacker, while still retaining his speed and quickness. With tremendous ball skills, Ellis is a difference maker on the defensive side of the ball. He'll do it all for Coach Joey Thibodeaux before heading to the Big 10.

25.

Karl Butler | CB

COMMITTED TO Vanderbilt

A smart and physical defensive back, Butler is going to be all over the field for the Crusaders. Butler will be given a chance to do it all for Mark Bonis’ team.
